A systems thinking guide for engineering managers, in print and on Kindle

Leading Effective Software Teams, the printed book, next to a cup of coffee It does look great on the coffee table

After a lot of work, Leading Effective Software Teams is now available. I hope you will enjoy it!

The book presents a holistic view of how to manage a team by looking at it as a system, understanding how to think from idea to value, and finding the best levers to enable an effective software team. This book doesn’t sell you a framework I invented. It talks about principles, practices, and real stories I’ve used while managing teams or advising other managers. All based on one of the oldest frameworks of all: systems thinking.

I’ve written before about why I turned years of blog posts into this book, and I also feel very lucky about the timing. I started writing it last year, which feels like a hundred years ago in technology. Honestly, with the changes the software industry has experienced this year, I considered stopping and shelving the project. However, systems thinking is trending, as the AI revolution is making it a required skill.

Code reviews have always been a bottleneck. Now, they are a critical problem to be resolved. Misalignments were easy to ignore when projects took months. They are now urgent friction when every day becomes a major delay. There is only one way to come out of this transformation ahead: thinking in systems. That is what this book teaches.

Please take a look and let me know what you think. If you read it and enjoy it, an Amazon review makes a real difference for a self-published book.
